Over the years I’ve interviewed Prince (he didn’t allow tape recorders), Paul Westerberg (not really the talkative sort), Elliott Smith (a kind, gentle soul), and Tony Bennett (a true gentleman), to name just a few. There were a number of awkward interviews, uncomfortable silences, water-through-the-nose laughs (thank you, Kim Deal) and plenty of memorable moments. I’ve written for Billboard, Rolling Stone, Spin, Minneapolis Star Tribune, St. Paul Pioneer Press and was published in the Trouser Press Guide. Since my start as a fledgling critic I’ve moved on to working as an editor, which unfortunately means I tend to be tasked with writing breaking news music stories (read: obituaries).
